Sonic Superstars: 2.5D Platformer Built for Co-op Gameplay

If - like us - you've been eagerly awaiting more Sonic news about the upcoming Sonic Superstars game, well, you're in luck. We've been tracking this title since it was announced during June's Nintendo Direct Event, and each new teaser gets us more excited.

Sonic Superstars Single-Player vs. Co-op Gameplay

Sonic Superstars offers gamers two distinct ways to play through it's varying levels: single-player and multiplayer co-op. From our observations, one will offer a better experience than the other.

Sonic Superstars Single-Player Experience

The single-player gameplay brings back memories of the side-scrolling adventure we all know and love. Players are able to choose one of Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, or Amy to complete levels, with each character bring a distinct skill set to the table. This optionality offers players a slightly different experience depending on which character they choose.

Sonic Superstars Co-Op Experience

On the other hand, multiplayer gameplay is where this title truly shines.

From the onset, it's clear that Nintendo had co-op gameplay in mind when designing Sonic Superstars. This should come as no surprise, given the initial gameplay sneak peeks featured heavy multiplayer usage.

Sonic Superstars Chaos Emeralds

The iconic Sonic franchise Chaos Emeralds are back in Sonic Superstars. Players will have the chance to play together (or fly solo) to collect Chaos Emeralds throughout their adventures.

After receiving a new emerald, players will be able to use its properties in battle when facing off against foes and boss battles. One of the more interesting abilities granted was Avatar, which creates multiple copies of the character to use in battle.

Sonic Superstars Release Date
