The latest Japanese game sales charts, courtesy of Famitsu, show another busy week for new releases — and an unexpected upset at the top. While Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 soared into second place, it couldn’t outshine Ghost of Yotei, which claimed the number-one spot with a commanding debut.

Ghost of Yotei Tops the Charts

Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghost of Yotei dominated its first week in Japan, selling an impressive 120,196 copies on PS5. The open-world adventure’s strong debut not only put it ahead of Nintendo’s latest Switch release but also gave Sony a clear hardware boost in the region.
Its success echoes the developer’s earlier triumphs with Ghost of Tsushima, proving that cinematic samurai adventures still resonate deeply with Japanese audiences.
Mario Galaxy Duo Launches Strong on Switch

Meanwhile, Nintendo’s Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 collection got off to a solid start with 48,265 units sold in its opening week. The re-release brings both Galaxy titles together on Switch for the first time, offering enhanced visuals and performance.
It’s a respectable debut — though quite a leap behind Ghost of Yotei’s performance — and signals ongoing demand for Nintendo’s 3D Mario catalog. With strong nostalgia appeal and family-friendly accessibility, it’s likely to enjoy long-tail sales through the holiday season.
Final Fantasy Tactics Returns Across Platforms
Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles also made a big splash, charting three times across platforms. The Switch version debuted in third place with 41,333 units, followed by the PS5 edition at fifth (24,138 units) and the Switch 2 release in seventh (12,363 units).
That multi-platform spread underscores the franchise’s enduring popularity — particularly among strategy RPG fans who have been waiting years for a new installment.
Hardware Sales: Switch 2 Still Leads the Pack
On the hardware front, the Switch 2 maintained its lead with 44,439 units sold, bringing its lifetime total past 2.15 million. The PS5 family saw a small uptick this week — no doubt thanks to Ghost of Yotei’s momentum — with 27,344 units sold across its three models.
Combining all current Switch systems (standard, OLED, and Lite) gives Nintendo 24,109 units this week — just behind Sony’s total, marking a rare moment where PlayStation edged ahead.
