What is Super Nintendo World?
Super Nintendo World is a vibrant, immersive theme park area created through a collaboration between Nintendo and Universal Destinations & Experiences. The park is a physical manifestation of Nintendo's beloved video game franchises, primarily focusing on the Mario franchise.
From the moment guests step through the iconic green pipe entrance, they're transported into the colorful and interactive realm of the Mushroom Kingdom, complete with attractions, character meet-and-greets, and themed dining experiences that bring the virtual world into reality.
Where is Super Nintendo World Located?
The first Super Nintendo World opened its doors in Universal Studios Japan in March 2021, followed by Universal Studios Hollywood in February 2023. Future locations are planned for Universal Studios Singapore and the upcoming Universal Epic Universe at Universal Orlando Resort, with openings expected as soon as 2025. These expansions will introduce the fantastical world of Nintendo to even more fans globally.
Super Nintendo World Overview and Attractions at Each Location
While both (current) locations share the core concept of bringing Nintendo's world to life, there are differences in the available attractions and experiences due to space constraints and design choices.
Attractions at Super Nintendo World - Universal Studios Japan
Universal Studios Japan's Super Nintendo World, nestled in Osaka, marked a pivotal moment in theme park entertainment when it opened its doors in March 2021. As the first theme park area dedicated to the world of Nintendo, it offers guests an immersive experience into the universe of Mario and friends.
Mario Kart: Koopa's Challenge
An interactive dark ride using augmented reality technology, putting guests right into the Mario Kart experience.
Yoshi's Adventure
A family-friendly omnimover ride that offers a colorful tour of the Mushroom Kingdom alongside familiar characters.
Power-Up Band Key Challenges
Interactive mini-attractions spread throughout the park, allowing guests to engage in various challenges to battle Bowser Jr.

Donkey Kong Country (Coming Spring 2024)
The highly anticipated Donkey Kong Country expansion is slated to arrive in Spring 2024 at the Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan location. The area will center around the DK Mine Cart experience, where coaster riders will "jump" the track in a heart-pounding experience. In advance of the expansion opening, Nintendo will be running a limited-time "Play Wild" interactive event at the Japan theme park location.
Attractions at Super Nintendo World - Universal Studios Hollywood
Universal Studios Hollywood welcomed its own Super Nintendo World in February 2023, introducing the iconic Nintendo universe to guests in a vibrant, interactive format. The second theme park location recently celebrated its first anniversary with a limited-time event and the Power Up Café opening.
Located in the park's Lower Lot, this version of Super Nintendo World, although more condensed due to space limitations, still packs a punch with attractions such as Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge, which blends augmented reality with immersive set pieces.
Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge
Similar to Japan's version but adapted to fit the Hollywood park's space constraints, this attraction combines AR with projection mapping and set pieces.
Bowser's challenge was added to the Hollywood expansion later in 2023, and ran a 3D billboard promotional campaign in downtown Los Angeles to celebrate the event.
Interactive Gameplay
Utilizing the Power-Up Band, guests can punch "Question-Mark (?) Blocks", collect digital coins, and engage in interactive games throughout the land.
Toadstool Cafe
The land's signature dining experience, serving a menu of gourmet dishes created by Chef Toad.
1-UP Factory
A retail shop offering collectible memorabilia, apparel, and plush characters.
Differences Between Japan and Hollywood Super Nintendo World Locations
While both locations share the core concept of bringing Nintendo's world to life, there are differences in the available attractions and experiences due to space constraints and design choices.
For instance, the Hollywood park currently lacks the Yoshi's Adventure attraction and had a more condensed lineup of interactive gameplay sections upon opening. Additionally, there are no current plans for a Donkey Kong Country expansion for the Universal Studios Hollywood location (mainly due to space constraints); however, this expansion is planned to be incorporated into the Orlando Super Nintendo World opening in 2025.
