The much-anticipated remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door has just received an E for Everyone rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) in the United States. This new development hints at a potential early release within its broadly scheduled 2024 launch window.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Remake Gets Ready for 2024 Debut

For those uninitiated, The Thousand-Year Door releasing for the Nintendo Switch is a cherished remake of the classic GameCube title (and one of my personal favorites), which originally captivated players back in 2004. Garnering critical acclaim and an impressive Metacritic score of 87, this game isn't just a trip down memory lane; it's a revisit to one of the most celebrated chapters in the Paper Mario saga.

Its impact was so profound that it snagged the Console Role Playing Game of the Year at the 8th Interactive Achievement Awards, now known as the DICE Awards!

The Thousand-Year Door's gameplay is expected to be largely unchanged from the original release; however, the graphics will get a much-needed modernization for the Nintendo Switch.

Ratings Received Globally

Interestingly, this isn't the first rating the game has received. It was previously rated in Brazil and Korea towards the end of last year. The ESRB's recent rating aligns with these earlier assessments and strengthens the speculation of an earlier-than-anticipated 2024 release.

When will Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door release for the Switch?

While no date has been confirmed at this time, other than the "2024 release", the timing of the latest rating is significant.

Final Current-Gen Release?

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is expected to be one of the last major titles for the current Nintendo Switch, as rumors swirl about Nintendo's plans to unveil its next-gen console. Although Nintendo hasn't officially commented on these next-gen console plans, news of forward progress on the console - including dev kits being released - have slipped through the cracks throughout last year.

As we await further news, one thing is certain: the anticipation for this remake is sky-high. Not only does it promise a nostalgic journey for long-time fans, but it also introduces a new generation to the charm and adventure of this iconic title.

Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to unraveling the mysteries of "The Thousand-Year Door" on the Nintendo Switch!
