Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door Releases on Nintendo Switch
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is set to release in 2024 for the Nintendo Switch console. The game features improved graphics for the current gen console and brings back your favorite gameplay features from this classic title.
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door Gameplay Overview
If you didn't have a chance to play this classic title when it originally launched for the Nintendo Gamecube in 2004, now is your time! The sequel to the aptly-named original title, Paper Mario, was met with high acclaim, improved gameplay mechanics from the original release, and a similar turn-based gameplay fight mechanic.
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door Fight Mechanic
The battle-style of both Paper Mario and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is a turn-based approach, where players are able to press specific action buttons to increase attack power and decrease damage if performed correctly. This is a fight mechanic that the latter titles migrated away from, leaving many fans (us included) longing for their return in subsequent Paper Mario titles.
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door Storyline
Without giving too much away, the story takes place in a land far away called Rougeport. This will be your go-to main hub area throughout the storyline, and you'll be able to explore the exciting areas through a pipe travel system.
Mario is tasked with finding a way into the Thousand Year Door by tracking down all seven Chrystal Stars spread across the land.
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door Transformations
As an improvement to the original game, The Thousand Year Door allows Mario to make the most of his paper form and transform into different shapes. These transformations take place as part of a "curse" (or blessing), and allow you to turn into a paper airplane to cross gaps, a paper boat to sail down rivers, a tube to roll under obstacles, and more!
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door Companions
Throughout the game, you'll encounter several companions to aid Mario in his journey to reclaim the Chrystal Stars. You companions can be used inside and outside of combat to reach new areas, perform specific tasks, or solve puzzles to move forward in your journey.
