Luigi's Mansion
When Luigi awakes from his kidnapping, the Luigi's Mansion theme can be heard playing in the background. The green-themed Mario bro known for getting spooked also fiddles with a broken flashlight, another nod to his eponymous bestselling game. While not half as courageous as his brother, we still love Luigi's willingness to face his fears for his family.
The Kong Family
The intro music for 1999's Donkey Kong 64 known as the "DK Rap" can be heard as soon as Kong steps into the arena. Diddy and Dixie Kong also make an appearance, characters known from Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Country 2 respectively. Eagle-eyed viewers will also spot the ever-stylish Swanky Kong within the crowd. Chunky Kong, another playable character from Donkey Kong 64, can also be found amongst the group. Lastly, Funky Kong and Kiddy Kong round out the monkey crew seen when they jump onto their carts and into the action. Funky debuted in Donkey Kong Country while Kiddy Kong first appeared in 1996’s Donkey Kong Country 3.
Mario Kart
While Mario, Peach and Toad construct their vehicles, their tools of choice resemble Mario Kart 8's selection screen while their anti-grav wheels also make their first appearance in this title from the racing franchise. Their air gliders used to make a safe landing meanwhile debuted in the previous Mario Kart 7 back in 2011. Even newer fans of the series will recognize the "Rainbow Road" level, notorious for its difficulty. Famous Mario Kart items such as the bananas, Bullet Bills, blue and green shells are also featured front and center.
