Microsoft seems to have confirmed the development of a new Nintendo Switch model, potentially the long-rumored "Pro" version. The confirmation came as part of the ongoing legal case between the FTC and Microsoft regarding its acquisition of Activision Blizzard King.
Nintendo Switch "Pro": What We Know so Far
Per Twisted Voxel, in the written ruling by Judge Corley, it was mentioned that Call of Duty is scheduled for release on an unreleased Nintendo Switch model that is currently being developed.
We don't know if you caught that in the legal mumbo-jumbo:
... and Microsoft's commitment to make Call of Duty available on an in-development Switch model). - Judge Corley | Microsoft, Activision Blizzard, FTC Court Case
This revelation suggests that the next console from Nintendo might be an upgraded version of the Switch rather than an entirely new successor. The ruling states that the only issues the FTC has identified regarding Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard King are related to the company's inability to predict the future. The ruling also refers to standard contractual provisions concerning unforeseeable future events and highlights Microsoft's commitment to making Call of Duty available on a Nintendo Switch model that is still in development.
Reliable Nintendo Leaker Shares Details
Additionally, a reliable leaker, known for accurately leaking Nintendo-related information in the past, shared details about updates to Nintendo's developer portal. These updates indicated that the company was incorporating support for a new Switch model referred to as the "NX 2."
Furthermore, the installer/downloader tool was also updated, suggesting that Nintendo was preparing to unveil the successor to the Switch to various developers. This leaked information hinted that the public announcement of the Switch successor might be closer than anticipated.
Nintendo Hints at Transition to Switch Successor
Previously, during a Q&A session, Nintendo had mentioned its plans for a smooth transition from the existing Switch to its successor. Nintendo's President and CEO, Shuntaro Furukawa, stated that the company aims to ensure a seamless shift for its user base through the Nintendo Account. He also mentioned that Nintendo considers various aspects of future hardware specifications but refrained from providing specific details at that time.
