June 2023 saw a surge in the prices of Super Mario RPG cartridges. After Nintendo announced a remake of the classic SNES title, developed by Square and published by Nintendo, old cartridges became a hot commodity in the gaming collector's community. As news spread, collectors rushed to secure their copies, resulting in a temporary inflation of prices. According to PriceCharting, loose cartridges were selling for over $100 in June.
