The Teal Mask DLC: What Was Leaked?
First off, The Teal Mask is scheduled to make its grand debut on September 13. However, social media has been abuzz since early Thursday with leaked renders of new Pokémon forms and other game details. Most of the leaked info was aggregated by a Twitter account named Centro Leaks.
Polygon reached out to The Pokémon Company for a comment on the situation and is awaiting a response. While they could not officially validate the leaks, the images shared are consistent with what we'd expect from an expansion set in the Kitakami region, a location deeply inspired by traditional Japanese culture.
Meet Bloodmoon Ursaluna
One of the most significant reveals from the leaks is Bloodmoon Ursaluna, which looks to be a new form of Ursaluna. For those not in the know, Ursaluna is the final evolution of the Teddiursa line introduced in Gen 8.
Now, how exactly this new form will differ in abilities or stats from the original Ursaluna remains to be seen. Yet, the very name "Bloodmoon" evokes a sense of mystique, possibly hinting at some dark or psychic abilities.
The Many Faces of Ogerpon
Another fascinating detail is the emergence of Ogerpon, a Pokémon we've met before but now seems to have a little more under its *ahem* mask.
The leaks suggest that Ogerpon will have three different forms and will be able to remove its mask. Could this indicate varied abilities or stat changes depending on the form? We can only speculate at this point.
A Twist in the Tea Leaves with Sinistcha
Last but not least, let's talk about Sinistcha, which appears to join the matcha-inspired evolutionary line that includes Poltchageist.
If you're a fan of themed Pokémon, this one's going to be your cup of tea—literally and figuratively.
Leaks in Context: A Recurring Theme
Leaks aren't exactly a new phenomenon in the Pokémon world. Remember when Pokémon Sword and Shield's strategy guide photos were leaked in 2019? The Pokémon Company even filed a lawsuit over it. Then in 2021, we saw leaks related to Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, followed by Pokémon Legends: Arceus in 2022.
Now, with these leaks about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, it's clear that The Pokémon Company has an ongoing challenge with securing its information.
Wrapping Up
To sum it up, while leaks can be both exciting and frustrating for fans, they’re a double-edged sword. They provide a sneak peek into what's to come, but they also potentially spoil the experience for those who prefer to go in blind. If you're the latter, you might want to set up some social media filters or simply tread cautiously online.
With The Teal Mask DLC set to officially drop on September 13, it won't be long before we find out which of these leaks hold water and which are mere mirages in the Pokémon landscape.
