Release Date and Overview
Just to make it crystal clear, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's upcoming DLC, officially titled "The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 1: The Teal Mask," will be available on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. Yes, you read that right—this year! And this is just the first part.
The second installment, dubbed "The Indigo Disc," is slated for Winter 2023. Both of these DLC packs promise to enrich your adventures in the Paldea region, featuring new stories, areas, Pokémon, and trainers.
The Tale Unfolds in Kitakami
Now, let’s talk story. The Teal Mask takes you to the land of Kitakami, where you'll be part of a school trip with students from the neighboring Blueberry Academy. Guided by Ms. Briar, one of the academy’s teachers, you'll set up your home base in quaint Mossui Town.
But what would a Pokémon adventure be without some new companions, right? Enter Carmine and her younger brother, Kieran, two siblings who study at Blueberry Academy. They'll be your partners in uncovering the lore of Kitakami.
The crux of this new journey revolves around locating signboards scattered across Kitakami to piece together a legendary folktale that's been passed down for generations. The folklore tells the tale of three new Pokémon—Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti—collectively known as the Loyal Three, who once saved Kitakami from a menacing Ogre.
Oooh, the plot thickens!
Fresh Activities to Engage In
Alright, let's cut to the chase. You're probably itching to know what new activities The Teal Mask brings to the table. First up is “Ogre Oustin'.” In this mini-game, you’ll ride around popping ogre-shaped balloons to collect berries and aim for a high score. You can go solo or team up with up to three other players online or via local play. No excuses for not playing with your friends!
Your efforts will not go unrewarded. You'll get Mochi as a prize, a new item that can be used to boost your Pokémon’s base stats. But here’s a twist—there’s also a Fresh-Start Mochi that resets a Pokémon’s stats to zero. Want to rebuild your Charizard from scratch? Now’s your chance!
Smile, You’re on Camera!
Oh, and let’s not forget about Perrin, a young photographer venturing to Kitakami to photograph specific Pokémon. She introduces a Pokémon Snap-esque mini-game that lets you roam around The Timeless Woods to capture images of elusive Pokémon. If you're a fan of Pokémon Snap, this will be right up your alley.
Perrin’s photography quest isn’t just a one-off; it's also a gateway to expanded features for the in-game camera. Now you'll have access to the Roto-Stick, which allows for wider angle shots. You can also direct Pokémon in your photos to get the perfect snap! Plus, the Union Circle feature lets you share these photos with friends.
