Thanks to data from Nintendo's recent quarterly financial update (and Serebii.net's Joe Merrick), we have some intel on where Pokémon Scarlet and Violet rank versus the previous games in the franchise.
Both Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have soared to become the third highest-selling games in the Pokémon series, with an impressive 24.36 million copies sold. This milestone has propelled them past the beloved Pokémon Gold and Silver, relegating the Game Boy Color classics to fourth place by a margin of over 600,000 sales as of December 2023.

Scarlet and Violet Rank as Top-3 Best-Selling Pokémon Games
The journey to the top has been competitive, with Scarlet and Violet now trailing just behind their eighth-generation predecessors, Pokémon Sword and Shield, which boast 26.17 million sales. Despite their success, both are still looking up at the series' best-selling retro games, Pokémon Red, Blue, and Green, which continue to lead with a staggering 31.38 million copies sold.
Record-Breaking Sales
The sales feat of Scarlet and Violet is particularly noteworthy considering they crossed the 20-million mark within just six weeks of release. With the release of Part 2 of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero's downloadable content (DLC), The Indigo Disk, all DLC is now released. It's expected that these latest mainline entries will maintain their position in the rankings for some time, eagerly awaiting what The Pokémon Company unveils next.
