The Pokémon Company Confirms February 2024 Pokémon Presents Event
The eagerly anticipated Pokémon Presents will be broadcast on Tuesday, February 27, starting at 6 am PT / 9 am ET / 2 pm GMT. An official statement from Pokémon's X account highlighted the event's aim to deliver updates in honor of Pokémon Day 2024.
Anticipation Builds After Recent Releases
The gaming community is buzzing with speculation, given that the last significant release from the Pokémon franchise was Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in November 2022. This title was later expanded with a two-part DLC, The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, which saw its first part launch in September 2023 and the second- part DLC in December of the same year. An additional epilogue featuring a new mythical Pokémon, Pecharunt, debuted on January 11.
With no clear indication of Game Freak's forthcoming major project, speculation is rife that an announcement could be imminent at the next week's Pokémon Presents - or potentially unveiling partner IP during tomorrow's Partner Showcase event.
Palworld Controversy Draws Attention
In a different light, the Pokémon franchise has found itself sharing the spotlight with a different title, Palworld, often dubbed 'Pokémon with guns'. This Steam game has achieved remarkable success, boasting 12 million copies sold and 7 million players on Xbox by February 1.
However, its success has sparked controversy over the apparent similarities between its characters and those from the Pokémon series, leading to accusations of plagiarism. In response, The Pokémon Company and Nintendo's president, Shuntaro Furukawa, have acknowledged the situation, stating that they are evaluating whether Palworld infringes on their intellectual property rights.
