Super Mario RPG Backstory

Our story begins Mario on a normal trip to Bowser's castle to rescue Princess Peach. Just as he's about to save her, a giant sword falls from the sky and pierces straight through the castle!

It's up to Mario and his allies - including Bowser - to save the world.

Playable Characters

Throughout Super Mario RPG's journey, you'll be able to control Mario. He is accompanied by familiar faces, Peach and Bowser. Two new characters will join us in the journey: Mallow, a young "frog" who's a bit of a crybaby and Geno, a traveler from Star Road who takes control of a wooden doll.

Gameplay and Combat

You'll encounter a vast array of terrain throughout the playthrough, including steep mountains, waterways, and forests.

Combat is initiated by touching enemies along the way, prompting a turn-based battle style. During battle, you can use special attacks unique to each character, restoring HP or modifying damage.

Importantly, Super Mario RPG's combat is centered around action commands, that allow you to increase or decrease damage dealt and received, respectively, by correct button-press timing. With the right timing, you can quickly turn the tides of battle! Side note: timing attacks perfectly allows you to deal damage to all enemies.

During battle, you'll also have a combat gauge resource that allows for a Triple Move once reaching 100%. The move will change depending on which character is currently active in combat.

If you're looking for an easier time, Breezy Mode can be switched on, offering you a more casual playthrough. This can be a great option for those just learning the game!

Enemies and Encounters

Throughout the Super Mario RPG journey, you'll encounter a trove of familiar faces appearing across the Mario franchise as well as new enemies. You can even go back and fight some bosses again after completing the main story.

What is Super Mario RPG's Release Date?

Super Mario RPG will be available for the Nintendo Switch on November 17th. Pre-orders are available today!
