Have you ever stopped to wonder, "I wonder what the new Wonder Flower in Super Mario Bros. Wonder is"? Yeah, us too.

Well good news for those that were wondering about the Wonder flower! Nintendo just gave us a sneak peek at the Wonder Flower's gameplay changes in their Mario Wonder Direct Event earlier this morning. Read on to see what all the fuss is about - we'll also try to tone down the "wonder" puns, but no promises...

Wonder Flower Background

Wonder Flowers are a new mechanic to Super Mario Bros. Wonder that completely change the way you play the game. The flowers are unique to the Flower Kingdom and thrive off the land's mysterious power. It's the very same power Bowser was after that got out favorite characters into their situation!

Wonder Flower's Wonder Effect

When you touch a Wonder Flower in a course, a Wonder Effect is triggered that causes changes to the gameplay - pipes might start moving, a stampede of enemies can appear, the terrain might tilt, you can end up in a free-fall, perspectives can change, you can float through space, or even transform your character into a Goomba!

From what we've seen so far, the possibilities almost feel endless.

To end a Wonder Effect, your goal is to collect a Wonder Seed. Once you collect the item, the Wonder Effect will end and the course will return back to normal.

Ways to Collect Wonder Seeds and Uses

The Wonder Seeds have a few uses, but the most important looks to be unlocking new courses by spending seeds you've collected. You'll be able to collect Wonder Seeds through two main methods:

  • Collecting a Wonder Seed during a Wonder Flower's Wonder Effect event.

  • Receiving a Wonder Seed from a Popplin when you complete a course.

Conclusion

As the game's title suggests, Wonder Flowers, Effects, and Seeds are all integral gameplay elements we can expect to see in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Personally, we can't wait to experience some of the quirky Wonder Effects first-hand!

Until then, we'll mark our calendars for the game's October 20th release date!
