With just a few weeks separating us from Pikmin 4's release date of July 21, we thought it would be a great time take a closer look at one of the game's newest additions: Glow Pikmin.
While last week's Pikmin 4 Demo didn't give us much to work with, we've been able to piece together how they'll be used in the upcoming release.

What Are Glow Pikmin?
Glow Pikmin are a bioluminescent, ghost-like pikmin type that are capable of flying, similar to Winged Pikmin in Pikmin 3. From the looks of it, they do not have a traditional onion, like most other pikmin types. Instead, Glow Pikmin live in burrow-like mounds and are only available during night expeditions.
How Do You Get Glow Pikmin
These little guys are only available during night expeditions. Unlike other pikmin types, you create more Glow Pikmin by collecting glowing star-like rocks and returning them to their mound.
Are Glow Pikmin Strong?
They may be small, but Glow Pikmin look like they'll pack a punch! They can be thrown like normal pikmin types; however, they also have a unique charge-up ability we haven't seen before. The mass of Glow Pikmin can be charged forward into enemies - and if contact is made - they will burst, stunning the enemy.
According to Pikminwiki, Glow Pikmin are immune to nearly all hazards in the game: fire, water, ice, electricity, and poison. This would place their resilience on a similar level as Bulbmin from Pikmin 2.
