Super Mario Bros. Wonder, set for release on October 20, continues the series' tradition of diverse and memorable landscapes. It introduces new terrains while retaining classic elements, and offers more open exploration with non-linear level selection. Departing from the New Super Mario Bros. series, the game features familiar visuals and gameplay, along with new playable characters, power-ups, and enemies. The Flower Kingdom setting includes seven new areas, revealed during an August 31 Nintendo Direct livestream.

Pipe-Rock Plateau
In the realm of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, designated as World 1, lies the Pipe-Rock Plateau. This area centers around familiar Mario symbols, easing the heroic plumber into an unfamiliar adventure without causing disorientation. The landscape features angular emerald hills inhabited by both classic adversaries like Goombas and novel foes. Among the new enemies are sheep-like creatures capable of block-breaking charges and tall beings that topple one another upon descent. The nomenclature of this world, Pipe-Rock Plateau, derives from the rock formations in the backdrop of select levels, reminiscent of the iconic pipe structures seen throughout the Mario series.
Shining Falls
Named Shining Falls, this world unsurprisingly revolves around waterfalls. However, its visual essence markedly diverges from the aquatic levels found in other parts of the game. Distinguished by its glistening gold waters and reddish terrain, this setting exudes an unconventional yet captivating charm akin to an alien realm. Notably, the geometry takes center stage here, as diamonds form a significant portion of the environmental textures. In the backdrop, isometric depictions of waterfalls, constructed from cubic blocks, ingeniously replicate this diamond motif, courtesy of their distinctive display angle.
Desert Area
The desert section within Super Mario Bros. Wonder remains without an official title, yet the Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct characterizes it as "arid." This region showcases novel shelled creatures that resemble armadillos or pill bugs, capable of curling up and rolling towards Mario as antagonistic entities.
Drawing from past desert levels in the Super Mario Bros. series, these adversaries might only be a fraction of Mario's worries. Recalling the infuriated sun from Super Mario Bros. 3, with its capacity to scorchingly approach, and the ever-memorable concept of shifting sands, one can anticipate potentially encountering even greater challenges in this environment.
Fluff-Puff Peaks
Embarking on the journey through Fluff-Puff Peaks in Super Mario Bros. Wonder leads Mario into an icy expanse, marking his initial venture into frozen terrain. Scaling towering mountains in this frigid realm becomes a requisite. However, a subsequent shift in atmosphere occurs when he takes to the skies, engaging in the joy of leaping through cloud-laden platforms.
The initial portion of this sequence introduces thrilling slides and showcases captivating background imagery. The landscape boasts snowmen and vividly hued lights, infusing a touch of wintry feel. As the adventure progresses to the second part, those untroubled by heights may find themselves equally at ease. Here, rosy clouds and serene skies evoke an unmistakable cotton-candy scene, adding an extra layer of charm to the journey.
Petal Isles
Located at the heart of the Flower Kingdom, the Petal Isles defy traditional Super Mario Bros. world numbering, constituting an array of small islands. This unique region offers an exceptional range of diversity within its distinct boundaries. Within this world, water levels make an appearance – a feature that tends to spark varying opinions despite Mario's generally above-average performance in such scenarios. Nevertheless, it's reasonable to anticipate the inclusion of melodious compositions that enhance these aquatic segments.
Adding a further touch of nostalgia to the Petal Isles is the incorporation of caves, a motif dating back to the original Super Mario Bros., specifically 1-2. Despite the Flower Kingdom's notable departure from Mario's customary realm, the presence of these cavernous environments bridges the gap and underscores their familiar essence. Although the Petal Isles might deviate somewhat from the typical cohesiveness characterizing Mario levels, their extraordinary variety allows them to truly shine in the realm of Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
Forest Area
Similar to the desert zone, the forest region in Super Mario Bros. Wonder has yet to be bestowed with a proper name. While the colossal mushrooms, a staple of Mario's domain, adopt a somewhat peculiar demeanor here, they remain steadfastly reliable for platforming endeavors. The enigmatic fluid churning beneath these mushrooms emits an eerie luminosity, heightening the peril of any misstep even beyond the usual level of danger.
Magma Area
If the desert's heat wasn't sufficiently scorching, the magma-themed world in Super Mario Bros. Wonder is undoubtedly poised to deliver that intense experience. Lethal pools of molten lava seem to lie beneath segments of this realm, akin to the liquid in the forest area, while the more solid terrain still incorporates blocks that can become searingly hot, inflicting damage.
Accompanying these environmental perils within the magma area are an abundant array of adversaries capable of hurling flames Mario's way, rendering this region the epitome of fiery challenges. Nevertheless, strategically placed pots of water should provide substantial aid against this onslaught. Evidently, this stands as the ultimate world to conquer prior to engaging in the climactic boss battle of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, facing off against Bowser in his airborne fortress. Consequently, one can anticipate a heightened level of difficulty in comparison to any preceding worlds within Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
