2024's Consumer Electronics Show (commonly known as "CES") is in full swing, running between January 9th through the 12th. We're only on Day 1 and already have some interesting news, thanks to Sony's presentation at the expo.
This is mostly thanks to a recent announcement from Sony's CEO, Kenichiro Yoshida, about a live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. This news comes on the heels of the phenomenal success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which raked in over $1 billion globally. Nintendo's move to bring more of its iconic franchises to the silver screen has fans eagerly anticipating what's next.

Sony CEO Remarks on The Legend of Zelda Movie at 2024 CES
Sony's almost 50-minute presentation at the 2024 CES covered several topics ranging from IP expansion from upcoming titles such as Kraven, Madame Web, and The Karate Kid; however the interesting part for Nintendo fans comes around the 15-minute mark in the following video (we've skipped ahead to that spot for you already).
The Collaboration Behind the Zelda Movie
Nintendo is joining forces with Sony Pictures for this ambitious project. During the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show, Yoshida shared that the movie would be an "amazing tale of adventure and discovery," sparking massive interest among fans and media alike. This collaboration marks a significant step in bringing beloved Nintendo characters to life in a new format.
What Can We Expect from the Zelda Movie?
While specific details about the plot and casting are still under wraps, the film has already attracted top talent. Wes Ball, known for his work on Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is set to direct, with veteran producer Avi Arad, famous for his involvement in the Spider-Man series, joining the production team. Fan speculations are rife, with names like Tom Holland or Timothée Chalamet and Hunter Schafer being tossed around for the roles of Link and Zelda, respectively.
Fans are even going as far to speculate where the filming could take place! One of the leading theories is New Zealand, offering a scenic landscape akin to one you'd expect in Hyrule.
Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo's renowned game director, expressed his excitement about working with Arad on this project. In a statement, he emphasized the significance of this collaboration and the involvement of Nintendo in ensuring the film's faithful representation of the beloved game series.
