Allegations of Chaotic Development and Interview with Mercury Steam
The development process for Metroid Dread wasn't always sunshine and rainbows. In fact, the Spanish-based developer got some flak, receiving allegations of a "chaotic" work environment at the time.
In a recent interview with the Metroid Dread's developer, Mercury Steam, the CEO shared the following remarks:
"I don't think the development was chaotic. Chaotic development doesn't end with one of the best games in the franchise. It doesn't end with a game that has sold over three and a bit million copies. It doesn't end with a game that has won TGA awards. That's all I have to say about that" - Mercury Steam CEO, Enric Alvarez
Metroid Franchise Sales: Looking into the Numbers
At this time, Metroid Dread is the Metroid franchise's best-selling game of all time. While difficult to gather clean data for the 35-year-old franchise titles, no other Metroid game has sold more than 3 million units on record. The closest we have been able to find is 2007's Metroid Prime, boasting more than 2 million unit sales.
Congrats on shattering the record, queen. This one is well-deserved.
